About Bettws Boys and Girls Club Bettws Boys’ and Girls’ Club is situated in the village of Bettws, between the Garw and Llynfi Valley, 5 miles north of Bridgend. The population is approximately 2,000 people. Bettws is a Welsh government Community First and Objective One Priority area. The Club, commonly called Bettws Boys Club, was founded in 1958, and has occupied its present building since 1983. This building was originally the village junior school. The Club is a registered charity and affiliated to the Clubs for young people Wales, Youth Cymru and the National Association of Clubs for Young People. It endeavours to participate in a wide range of indoor games, sporting, recreational, leisure, social and educational activities. Bettws Boys’ and Girls’ Club has a long-standing tradition of participation in a wide range of Clubs for Young People Wales national events and activities. Activities delivered at present include: arts and crafts, pool, American football, Basic Skills, Historical learning, workshops, Knitting/sewing, Cookery, IT development, CV writing, Emergency life support, Heart Start, topical debates, Youth Council, karaoke, quizzes, Boxing and Boxercise, qualifications (OCN accredited), seasonal activities, drama, media project, Key Stone Awards, Millennium Volunteer Award, Youth Achievement Award, Time Bank, outdoor activities, and outdoor pursuits. The Club is open five nights a week, Monday, Tuesday (5.30pm-8.30pm), Wednesday (5.00pm-8.30pm) and Thursday and Friday (5.00pm-9.00pm), including school holidays. The Club premises are also available for community use during the days with 16 years and over accessing the facilities to develop their skills to increase employment and educational opportunities. Membership is open to any person between the ages of seven and twenty-five years. Club nights and activities are arranged to suit the varying age groups. Bettws Boys’ and Girls’ Club is run by a Voluntary Management Committee and has a board of trustees. The Club seeks to involve itself and work in partnership in and with the whole community and participate in local community and youth networks and partnerships. |
